The Four Pillars of Book Marketing

The idea behind the four pillars of book marketing comes from an article I read on Jane Friedman's site The Four Pillars Of Book Marketing. The article was written by guest author Matt Holmes. I saw myself in this article in so many ways! I am still on the very steep learning curve of marketing my books, it has not been that long ago that I looked at all of the options (Facebook, Amazon, YouTube, Twitter, Instagram) and did not know where to begin. (If you read Matt Holmes's article, you will see that he also branches out into promo sites, Facebook groups, newspapers and magazines as part of his initial promotional blitz.)

He currently uses two sources to promote his wife's books - Facebook ads and Amazon ads. I can live with that! (He also does a "small spend" on BookBub.)

Holmes identifies the four pillars of book marketing as:

  • Book Product Page
  • Traffic
  • Audience building
  • Profit
He goes on to break down each pillar and describe each one and how it works. I won't go into that here, because you need to read his words and story. This is a must-read article if you want to get a handle on promoting your books.

His suggestion is to do 30 to 60 minutes of marketing a day. To hear that was a great relief! You market, and then you track your marketing. I can do that! (Hint - he actually gives you the steps he takes in a 60-minute marketing session,)

There is more, but I will leave that for you to read. This one article shows the way to make marketing relatively simple and easy.
