Ending Your Writing Year

We are very close to the end of the year. As a writer, I am looking at what I need to tie together, and how I need to tie it together. One project I needed to let go of, and I did. It was my first mystery book, and started during NaNoWriMo 2010. After many false starts, much editing, and a complete change of theme, I made the decision to scrap it, keep the main characters, move the location and revise the crime. January will see me starting anew, using the new online Hiveword novel writing software (Hiveword Novel Writing Software).

I am well into my second Tarot book, so there is nothing to "tie up" there. It is an ongoing project. The same goes for the promotion of my first Tarot book, "Tarot, Birth Cards, and You".

I have been all over the place this past year with schedules, projects, and deadlines. It is beyond trying to keep everything (or anything!) straight in my mind. I will be using Karyn Easton's "Tarot Lover's Diary" again, as it is small, and can be kept right next to my laptop.Karyn's calendar can be found here - Paranormality.com.

The other thing that I did was to go back to using my Google calendar. I have the rest of December and the month of January 2012 programmed into it. As projects and deadlines come up, they will go into the calendar, which sends me reminders via e-mail.I also found out that I could add a background to my calendar ... so I did! Go me! (And thanks to the lovely Catherine Chapman for getting me to start using the Google calendar in the first place!)

How is your new writing year shaping up?

  2. My writing year is not over yet! Am in the midst of moving my writing studio, so a lot on my plate. Novel deadline is behind schedule accordingly, so 2012 will feel like an extension of 2011. I think the true "close" of 2011 will be when I hand in my draft to my agent in early 2012. Then I'll be onto the new.

Moving your studio (and your residence) was such a cool idea! Time consuming, but what a beautiful home! Handing in the draft of your new novel will be a watershed moment! I always look forward to your work! :)

      Blessings,
      Bonnie

  3. Thank you for sharing your thoughts and plans and tips. I also use Google calendar but had no idea I could add a background. Thank you for that and may all your dreams come true in the next year.

The background capability is really cool! I added a background of the pages of my book, so I am reminded that I have workout there. :) Have fun with this!

  4. Hi Bonnie! First let me say that I love your website. It has some really great and useful information. I do find it interesting that you scrapped a project around a Mercury Retrograde. Thanks for the tip with Google Calendar. As for the year-end wrap up...I'm actually entertaining the idea of writing a book...again (Lol). That would be perfect timing with the new year and the new moon rolling in. Here's hoping you have an abundant, happy & healthy new year! ~Dorrina

Thank you for your kind words! It was the right time (Merc Rx) to scrap that project, although it wasn't easy!

Google calendar is fun to work with. :)

I hope that you do get your book(s) out there! In know that you have a great deal to say! :)

Wishing you abundance, happiness, health and prosperity in your New Year too!

      Blessings,
      Bonnie

Long Chapters Or Short Chapters - What Is Your Preference?

Does it make a difference to a reader whether the chapters in a book are long or short? It does to me. I like shorter chapters, as they feed...
